Welcome to Medaram Jathara

A little festival of tribal origin in Telangana has become a major pilgrimage in the last six years. The Medaram Jathara festival is held every two years at in Medaram Village of Tadvai Mandal deep in the heart of the thick forests of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

This Jatara has been declared as State Festival during 1998.This year the Jatara will be held from 31th January to 3rd February 2018 (4-days) The population of the little forest village at Medaram in normal times never exceeds 300. Suddenly, Last year nearly 1crore pilgrims participated the Jatara and during this year the expected pilgrims is 1.20crore devotees come from all over Telangana,Andhra and neighbouring states like Orissa, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

Event Schedule

1st day of "Medaram Jathara" Medaram Jathara is celebrated as the arrival of Saralamma on to the ‘Medaram Gaddhe’ (Platform). Saralamma was the daughter of Sarakka. Saralamma is installed in a temple at Kannepalli, a small village near Medaram On 31-01-2018, in the morning pujaris perform pujas secretly. The unmarried women and men, those who want to have children and those who are suffering from diseases perform special pujas to Saralamma on this day The villages of Kannepalli perform ‘Aarti’ and organize grand farewell to Saralamma. From there, the idol of Saralamma is brought to Medaram Gaddhe through ‘Jampanna Vaagu’ (a small canal named after Jampanna) After arriving on to the ‘Gaddhe’ Saralamma is worshipped with special pujas and other rituals. More than 3 million devotees visit Saralamma and offer special pujas as a part of Medaram Jathara.

2nd day of Medaram Jatara is celebrated as the arrival of Sammakka on to the ‘Medaram Gaddhe’ (Platform). Sammakka is welcomed amidst the official homage from police and government. ‘Edurukolla Ghattam’ is one of the popular events during the arrival of Sarakka.On 01-02-2018, pujaris bring bamboo sticks and place them on the ‘Gaddhe’. Amdist the protection and official homages of police, Pujaris bring Sammakka to Gaddhe (Sammakka is usually installed at Chilukala Gutta in the form of a ‘Kumkuma Bharina’). Sammakka is the presiding deity of Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jathara At Chilukala Gutta, as the indication of the arrival of Sammakka, the district SP (Superintendent of Police) fires his gun thrice in the air and inaugurates the ‘bali’ to please Sammakka. Amidst the slogans praising Sammakka, pujaris bring the deity on to Gaddhe.
On 3rd day of Medaram Jathara, Sammakka Saralamma darshanam is available devotees. After performing Punya Snanams in ‘Jampanna Vaagu’, devotees visit the Goddesses. Devotees offer various offerings to Sammakka Saralamma. In 2018, sammakka sarakka darshanam date is 02-02-2018. Women offer ‘Odi Biyyam’ (sacred rice) and ‘saare’ (combination of necessary items in daily items) to the Goddesses. Third day is the busiest one among the four festival days.The important offering in Sammakka Sarakka Jathara is ‘Bangaram’ (bellam, the Gold). Jaggery is offered as gold to the Goddesses.
Last the 4th day of Medaram Jathara is celebrated as Vana Pravesham of Sammakka and Sarakka. After getting worshipped by millions of devotees, devatas return back to forest. It marks the conclusion of 4-day Sammakka Saralamma Jathara.The same security and the official homage they have got while arriving on to the platform are paid to the Goddesses while returning into the forest (Vana Pravesham).
  Heavy vehicles movement will be put-off the roads from 1st Week of Jathara Month to avoid traffic congestion
  CC TV Cameras and Drone cameras will be used to monitor the situation from command control room
  Vehicles coming from Warangal side are allotted one way via Gudeppad, Mallampalli, Mulug, Pasra, Narlapur
  For Vehicles coming from & going to Eturu Nagaram side are allotted way Chinnaboinapally, Kondai, Malyal and Oorattam way
  For vehicles leaving Medaram have been allotted two routes based on destination.Leaving for Warangal side are allowed via Narlapur, Bayyakkapet, Gollabuddaram, Kamlapur, bhupalapalli, Parkal, Gudeppad, Hanmakonda route. Leaving for Kaleshwaram side are allowed via Kalwapally, Yamanpalli, Chinthakani,Kataram, Mahdevpur route.
  Separate route for RTC buses (Pasra-Tadvai-Medaram)
  Parking of Vehicles- More than 30 parking places are identified more than 1000 acers
More than 20 holding areas are identified to have enough buffer space in the event of re-routing or holding the vehicles on the route
  Police personnel arranged at Check-posts and police Out-post to guide the traffic
  Cranes and towing vehicles stationed at strategic locations to clear any traffic objections
  Special Mechanic Teams are formed and placed in critical teams to support in case of Vehicles breakdown
  Patrolling by the Bike-borne police to declog any traffic congestion

  Keep your Home Address & Mobile numbers with your children and aged persons
  If you have missed some one please contact Help centers or wait till arrival of missing person
  If you have found any missing children or aged persons please contact near by Volunteers or Police help centers
  Carry your wallet in an inside jacket pocket or side trouser pocket, never in the rear pocket
  Take Queue line designated for your arrival destination while boarding RTC Bus.
  Maintain Queue line and co-operate with Police & RTC staff
  Do not keep Valuables in your parked Vehicle
  Do not accept food from unknown persons
  If any unclaimed or suspicious objects is found, please inform Police immediately
  Open deification is prohibited, use only toilets
  Note your Parking Place & parking area for your convenience to avoid confusion while collecting vehicle as there are 20+ parking places around Medaram
  Maintain Discipline in Darshan Queue lines and have hassle free Darshan
  Please co-operate with Police & other staff who are working for your safety & convenience
  Pilgrims are requested to use specific bathing ghats, toilet areas as authorised by the Jathara administration for your safety and security
  You are advised to make use of the nearest bathing Ghats, toilets places from your place of stay
  Please drive your vehicles in authorised routes as instructed by the Police
  Pilgrims and Tourists are requested to behave in dignified manner and wear suitable attire, considering the religious and cultural sensibilities of the event
  Do keep your surroundings clean
  Please throw garbage in dustbins only
